We build paver patios in Lock Haven and the towns around it, from Jersey Shore and Williamsport to State College and Lewisburg. Our patio packages sit on 6 inches of compacted stone and 1 inch of bedding sand, pitched away from the house so rain runs off.

Patios we build.
The Patio is our basic package: a paver patio off the back door in three sizes, up to 180, 250 or 350 sq ft.
From there you can add a seat wall or a fire pit, build a round patio around a fire pit, or go to a full outdoor room with lighting.

How we build a paver patio.
Every patio package is built to this spec.

What happens on site.
Our skid steers and mini skid steer move the stone and paver pallets, plate compactors pack the base, and saws cut the pavers to fit. The crew also draws on your water and electricity while it works.
Grading and lawn repair beyond the patio are included only when they’re written into your contract. For beds, mulch or seed around the new patio, ask for landscaping in the same estimate.

Fire pits and seat walls.
Our package fire pits are 44-inch paver fire pits with a steel insert. Patio Plus adds either the fire pit or a 12 ft capped seat wall to a paver patio, sized to seat 6 to 8.
For a fire pit out in the yard, the Fire Pit Lounge builds a round patio 16, 20 or 24 ft across, ringed by a curved, capped seat wall. It can sit on its own or connect to a patio.
The Outdoor Room has both, a 16 ft seat wall and the fire pit, on a large patio. Before you pick a spot, read fire pits on pavers.
Raised patios and steps.
When the back door sits well above the yard, we raise the patio on a segmental block retaining wall. Our Dunnstown project, a raised paver patio and block wall, was built that way.
The wall underneath is built like our other retaining walls, with drainage behind the block and geogrid where the height calls for it.
Steps join the levels: the Outdoor Room includes steps down from the back door when the grade calls for it.
Building a patio in Lock Haven.
The last two apply inside city limits only. Getting and paying for any permit falls to the homeowner, and we’ll flag what we know about it at the site walk.
Permits
City Hall’s Code Enforcement Office handles building and zoning permits for addresses inside Lock Haven. Outside the city line, as in Dunnstown in Woodward Township, ask your township instead.
Stormwater
The city’s 2023 stormwater ordinance exempts a project from its site-plan rules when it has less than 500 sq ft of impervious area and disturbs less than 5,000 sq ft of ground. The largest Patio package, 350 sq ft, is under that line on its own; bigger work needs a city-approved stormwater site plan.
Impervious area
A new patio adds to your impervious area in the city’s eyes. Lock Haven’s stormwater user fee is figured on impervious area (one Equivalent Residential Unit is 3,100 sq ft), and patios, driveways, sidewalks and gravel or crushed-stone travel areas all count.

Questions.
How many crew days does a paver patio take?
Plan on 2 days of crew time for a Patio package up to 180 sq ft. The 250 sq ft size takes 3 days and the 350 sq ft size takes 4. If you add a fire pit, seat wall or steps, ask at the site walk how many days to plan on.
Why is the patio pitched away from the house?
So rain runs off the surface and away from your foundation instead of collecting against it. If your yard already sends water toward the house, a French drain and regrading can go in with the patio; see our French drain page.
Should I get pavers or a concrete patio?
We build both. A paver patio is laid over a compacted stone base with sand-filled joints, while a concrete patio is poured as one slab and can be stamped; see our concrete page.
Can you add lighting to a patio?
Yes. The Outdoor Room package includes six low-voltage LED fixtures and a transformer. Our landscape lighting and backyard finish project shows a finished example.
Can I get a shape, size or pattern the packages don’t list?
Yes. Anything outside a package is priced as a custom patio after a free estimate, where we walk the yard with you and measure. That custom price comes to you in writing before work begins.
