Muthler Landscaping & Construction is a hardscape, concrete and excavation contractor in Lock Haven, PA, owned by Thayne Muthler. Our own crews build patios, retaining walls, drainage and site work for homeowners across Clinton, Lycoming, Centre and Union counties.

From lawn care to hardscape and site work.

Thayne Muthler was still a student at Jersey Shore Area High School when he started the business in 2017, as a lawn care company.

The work got heavier from there. Residential hardscaping is now the bulk of it: paver patios, block retaining walls, walks and steps, fire pits and seat walls. We also pour concrete and run excavation and site work, and in winter the trucks switch to plowing and salting.

We still do the landscaping that finishes a hardscape job, such as beds, edging, river rock and seeding around the new work. That side has its own landscaping page.

Our crew and our machines.

The crew building your patio works for us, not for a subcontractor. Our own crews do the hardscape, wall, drainage, excavation and concrete work.

Most jobs run on equipment we own. The fleet centers on a Wacker Neuson EZ36, a mini excavator with zero tail swing, and adds skid steers plus a mini skid steer, an auger, plate compactors and saws, and the trucks and dump trailers that bring in stone and block. Anything bigger gets rented for the job.

Owning the machines also means you can hire one, with our operator, by the hour. See machine time for the rates.

How we work.

1Free estimateA visit to your property, where we go over the job with you and take measurements.
2Written priceBefore any work starts, you have our price in writing. With the 12 fixed-price packages, the number on the website is what you pay, and a free 15-minute site walk checks it against your yard ahead of signing.
3ContractContracts are signed electronically on our website and drafted to meet Pennsylvania’s Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act (HICPA). Yours spells out the work and the price, plus any special-order materials.
4Before we digWe contact PA One Call (811) ahead of any excavation; state law requires it. Permits are yours to obtain and pay for when your township or borough requires one, and we’ll share what we know about it at the site walk.

Registered, insured and in writing.

Our Pennsylvania home improvement contractor registration is PA HIC #PA212584, and the company carries insurance. The state registers home improvement contractors rather than licensing them, so that HIC number is what to look for on any contractor’s paperwork.

The contract spells out the job. Extras such as lawn repair or grading past the work area are part of it only if they’re listed there.

Where we work.

The shop is at 913 Bellefonte Ave in Lock Haven. The four counties we cover are Clinton, Lycoming, Centre and Union, and we also take jobs in Danville, Selinsgrove, Milton, Watsontown and other towns close by in Northumberland, Montour and Snyder counties. Find your town on areas we serve.

Questions.

Who owns Muthler Landscaping & Construction?

Thayne Muthler owns and runs it. He began the business doing lawn care in 2017, back when he was a student at Jersey Shore Area High School, and it has since grown into a hardscape, concrete and excavation contractor with its shop in Lock Haven.

Do you use subcontractors?

Not for the core work. Patios, walls, drainage, excavation and concrete: our own crews build all of it. Asphalt paving and directional boring are subcontracted when a job includes them.

What warranty comes with your work?

Our written warranty covers workmanship for 6 months after the job. It sits on top of Pennsylvania law, which already guarantees that home improvement work meets a workmanlike standard.

How much deposit do you take?

We never ask for more than a third of the contract price up front. That cap can be passed only for special-order materials, and those are spelled out in your contract.
