Building permits run through one regional office here, and zoning depends on which municipality your lot is in.
Building permits
State College Borough and College, Ferguson, Patton and Harris townships all use the Centre Region Code Administration (CRCA) for building permits. CRCA is at 2643 Gateway Drive, Suite 1, State College, 814-231-3056.
Zoning permits
Zoning permits come from the State College Borough Planning Department, or from the township zoning office if your property is in College, Ferguson, Patton or Harris Township.
Parking areas
In the Borough, a zoning permit is required before building any structure that needs a CRCA building permit, and before building an off-street parking area.
Inspections
CRCA requires at least 24 hours’ notice for inspections, with timed inspections for footers and concrete pours.
Historic districts
The Borough has two local historic districts, College Heights and Holmes-Foster/Highlands, under its Historical Architectural Review Board ordinance.
Rental properties
The Borough and Ferguson, College, Patton and Harris townships adopted the 2023 Centre Region Rental Housing and Building Safety Code, so rentals carry rental housing permits and CRCA inspections.
